Did you know the first thing they ask you to do when creating a website is to pick a name? When I wanted to create Gamer Girl I knew what I wanted. However, picking a name was another story.
I messaged my friend, Aly, and I was like what should I name it? Her typical response was let me think on it and find some coffee. We’re women and Gamers we all get the need for massive amounts of Caffeine.
Before I decided to do this I had been looking around just to see if I could find something like this that existed. In the process of looking and poking around I found a lot of articles about Women who Game and I found a lot of memes.
While I encourage women in the gaming industry to support each other unfortunately some of the memes and articles held a lot of truth. That truth is one of the reasons we as women struggle within this industry.
There are women who play games because they enjoy them and there are women who play games for the attention it gets them from men. It’s unfortunate but true that this exists within the gaming world. Unfortunately as well many men have taken this fact and assumed that all women are this way. This has led to women in the gaming industry feeling lesser then and as if their opinion is not valued.
We are women/girls a fact that should be celebrated and we are gamers. This community will take a look at several things including:
Females in the gaming industry
and
Articles that focus on women and gaming and our views.
However, it will also be a community where women who game can support each other and talk about the issues they are facing as women in the gaming world. So, let’s get started!
