Gaming

Designed By Women

We all love gaming. That’s why I write these articles and why I created this place. However, let’s be honest. Some days you open the game and it is frustrating. Today was one of those days for me. One of the games I play frustrates me. I will give advice and people will brush it off, yet seconds later a man giving the same advice is found to be brilliant. This is discouraging.

However, what is encouraging is seeing that not only is there a rise of women in Gaming but that rise extends to women who are creating the very games we play. I tried a new game one day called Game of Sultans where I was forced to be a male and build a harem… I never really got into it so maybe it improved but I was not sold on the premise.

More and more games however, are recognizing that the landscape of gaming is changing. Molly Proffitt is the CEO of Ker-chunk Games and has designed a game where the Princess rescues the Prince. The Game is called PrinceNapped and is currently only available through iTunes and Facebook. However, it is definitely one I want to check out. I pulled this quote from the article I read about the game. To read the whole article be sure to click here, it’s definitely worth a read.

The prince in the mobile game PrinceNappeddoes not look like your typical prince. There are some familiar characteristics — perfectly coiffed hair, bulging muscles, and shiny white teeth — but some things are just off. His crown is on backwards, he has a boastful “prince” tattoo on his shoulder, and he drags his feet. This is no regal, come-to-the-rescue hero — and that’s the point.
“We literally Googled the word ‘douchebag’ and started pulling pictures,” Molly Proffitt, the game’s designer told Refinery29 of the character’s appearance.
I plan to check out this game and maybe get a few laughs on the way. If you all are interested just google PrinceNapped by Ker-Chunk games and give it a whirl. Let us know what you think of it while you’re at it!
