Gaming Changed my Life

I have not posted in awhile and I want to fix that. I love writing and working to have a voice within this community that has given me a voice. If you had told me even five years ago that this is where I would be today… well I would have laughed at you. I barely owned a gaming system and for years I denied that I even needed a smart phone.

The thought of being connected to a phone all the time was not my idea of fun. I hated the loss of human interaction I was seeing due to TV and phones. To sit with your face buried in a phone.. well to me it made no sense. I put off getting a smart phone as long as humanely possible and even when I finally caved in the most sophisticated game I had was candy crush.

Then one day I ended up with a migraine. That migraine lasted and lasted and I ended up in the hospital. So I downloaded a new game. This is the game that began my story. I had never played an online strategy game like this and I quickly found myself being drawn into friendships with other players.

I had no clue what I was doing. I started following the quests and building and just doing things to distract me from what was going on. I would open up the game and work on my account as I had time but then over time I started to invest more into the game. Eventually I met a friend who sent some marches my way for tests.

He was surprised by my build and told me, you built a trap! I had no clue what he was talking about. It was actually quite amusing. He began to work with me and help me to learn how to build and do things on my own. Being my obstinate self I was always convinced I did not need what he said I needed and I would get a rally test and he would roll his eyes and say… I told you so.

Over time I began to meet more people and work with other talented players who taught me even more. I had no clue what to do with stats or how to build them. These friends began to teach me how those things worked and I began to evolve as a player.

Eventually some of these friends left the game. However, I continued on and over time made new friendships. Some which were good and some which were not as healthy. The people I met led me to where I am today. Eventually I had the opportunity to start writing articles in order to educate the community and teach them the lessons that I had been taught.

At first my sole purpose was to earn a little extra pack money. We all know how powerful that pack money can be. However, over time it began to evolve and opened up so many doors for me. I love the gaming community and I love having the ability to have a voice within this community.

I never knew that the day I downloaded a game would change my life. I did not know the opportunities or people it would bring into my life. I did not know the tears and the joy it would bring to my life. I thought I was just downloading a game. However, I am so fortunate to be a part of this community and to have a voice and it will forever impact my life.

I know that each of you have been impacted by a game in one way or another. Whether it be through the community or the opportunities. Share you stories because I would love to hear them!

  1. I actually wrote a post on exactly your question! https://backlogcrusader.blog/2019/05/14/how-video-games-influenced-my-life-and-my-writing/

I love meeting fellow girl gamers on WordPress! I see you haven’t posted since April but if you comeback I’d love to see you get more followers as you have some great posts here. I found it’s super helpful and motivating to get involved in the gaming bloggers community. Geek Blogs United on Facebook is a great place to start. 🙂

    1. haha I purposely do not mention the title. Because I work writing articles for a few games I try to keep them separate from here.
